KJ-52’s songs about Eminem

A few weeks ago, I have posted an article about KJ 52’s ‘ Dear Slim ‘ songs. In the meantime, I had the curiosity to have a look at the lyrics and to listen to the songs. I know that KJ has driven mad a lot of Eminem fans (mostly kids), but I think it would be interesting to try to be as objective as possible as an adult Eminem fan.
When I knew the Christian rapper had released a second song ‘dear Slim part II’, I presumed it was a call for conversion. I guessed it right in some way. I think that KJ respects Eminem and wants to help him, but he should be cautious, when he says he wants Eminem to change his heart.
Why should Eminem necessarly have a bad heart and viewed as a bad person?
I wish KJ 52 could read what I want to tell him right now:
KJ, you’re talking about God. I just hope that you are not as brainwashed from pentacostal churches as I was in the early 90’s. Because many of those kind of Christians spend their time trying to save other people’s souls, but never look at themselves. I mean they are not even aware of their own sins and mistakes. They have disgusted me completely and honestly, in my opinion, they are so far away from real love.
Your intentions honor you, though. You have seen that there may remain a lot of pain inside of Marshall. But I strongly disagree with you when you describe Slim as a bad role model. You seem to despise cusswords and the content of his lyrics too. But do you realize that a sugarcoated Eminem would be a real disaster for his fans and for the music industry?
I don’t want Eminem’s music to sound like Black Eye Peas. He’s a gangsta rapper and his lyrics are related to ghetto life. He has the courage to describe his past in its roughness and its uglyness. He has also the courage to always speaking his mind. I don’t want Eminem to change in that way, you cannot make a gospel singer out of him.
But I respect you, KJ 52, for some points you expressed on Eminem.
First, you didn’t describe him as a devilish person, what integrists like those Christians against Eminem (CAE) did. You told them to ‘get on their knees and pray for him’, what they obviously should do, but first they should pray for themselves, because as Christians they are unable to show mercy. They are sinners too and shouldn’t forget it so easily. In the end, only God can judge.
Second, you respect him for the love he shows towards Hailie. Nobody could deny the man loves his daughter.
Third, you saw his pain from the past and it moved you. You followed his career step by step and the way you talk about him managed to move me too in some way.
KJ, you have no idea of what Eminem has been through. He is lucky to be alive today. Eminem believes in God, he prays with his daughter every day when he’s at home. But if he didn’t, would that automatically make a bad man of him? I have seen so many people in my life who were swearing on the Bible and who have been real bitches to me.
You are wrong on one point: what Eminem is saying helps a lot of people and kids in particular. ‘Cleaning Out My Closet’ is a therapy for mishandled kids and it has helped me so much to overcome a lot of problems. Many kids who buy Eminem’s Cd’s can relate to his songs. I’m personally in touch with teenagers who are fellow fans and who are experiencing children abuse. They find their force in Eminem’s songs. KJ, you’re wrong in that way.
KJ, no Church, no preacher have cured me from the deseases I had inside. Marshall has done this for me.It is precisely his rage, his words and his attitude who deeply changed me. You ought to know that he is real, and believe me, God loves it when people don’t fake themselves. This man you’re calling for conversion has already been blessed by God.

[Verse I]
Dear Slim, I never wrote you or been calling
My name ain’t Stan son nah we’ve never met and
My name’s KJ let me begin by introducing now
Myself to you and these very reasons I’ll be writing
Why I took my time the who what where and why and
The purpose of my verse and the reasons I’m reciting
What I hope your learning from the truth I pray your finding
And every word I’m writing down upon the dotted lines and
See I heard ya first album it was called infinite
I shook my head cause nowadays you sounding different
What drove ya to take your whole persona and be flipping it
Now what makes a man totally change see I ain’t getting it
See was you sick of getting booed when you was ripping it
And sick of never having dough and you wanted to put an end to it
What good’s all kinds of dough, plus all kinds of flow?
To gain a world of fans but suffer the loss of soul
[Chorus – 4X]
La la la la la la
La la la la la la la la (to whom it may concern)
[Verse II]
Dear Slim I never wrote you or been calling
This is my 2nd letter cause see son I gots a real problem
It’s that to you that I’m always catching these comparisons
And after shows I got these people coming up to me saying
You sound like Slim Shady son you sound like Eminem
And I be like now really man do I gots to go through this again
See I used to get mad and sick of people saying that
Till at this one show this one day I met this one cat
He told me how he used to listen to you but now listens to me
Had your LP but threw it out and bought my CD
I’m like “For real?” he’s like “Yeah,” said my music made a difference
It got him away from all your words and images
Gotta mention this now what about the effects you have on kids?
You ever stop to think about the millions you influence
Or is it just irrelevant is it a true life you telling it
Or just a way for some record companies selling it
The only thing we’s got in common is our melanin
Or a lack of it but anyway now this is what I’m saying
Its for you that I’m on my knees now daily praying
Praying that God opens your eyes now to what I’m relaying
Now I’m praying that it’s your heart that will soon be changing
Praying one day that you’ll be calling upon his name and
But anyway I’m signing off now don’t keep me waiting
This is KJ another cat just trying to make it
[Chorus]
[Verse III]
Dear Slim I heard about the stuff you’s going through
See I could relate to you cause son I’m about as old as you
See we both know what it’s like just to be growing up to be in a neighborhood
When you’s the one and only kid that’s white
Or to get booed when you on the mic just because your skin is light
It ain’t right but sometimes you know that’s life
But really tell me what you do?
You just push on with hopes on that someday you’ll put on your crew
I hope you understand that I ain’t even dissing you
And even though it’s a song you’ll probably never listen to
See what I send to you is this
Is that a life without Christ is just a life that is never fixed
I hope you remember this now a few sentences
About a living God who loves you and plus forgives
And I’ll be praying for your ex-wife and plus your kid
It’s hard to live in a world as crazy as this one is
And even though now it really might sound redundant
God’s got mad love for you up in a mad abundance
You’ll sell a couple mill I’ll probably sell a couple hundred
There’s more to life than selling records and just getting blunted
But anyway that’s really all I gots to say
Just another word from an emcee now around the way
Maybe some day we meet each other in some way
Till then one love one God one way
[Chorus]
Part II
La la la la la la la yo yo yo yo yo
La la la la la la la la yo yo
Dear Slim Part Two yo yo
Dear Slim I wrote you but you ain’t calling
Its been a couple years now since I wrote that song and
A lot has changed now for you and I
I have no clue now that I’d write a song for you and it would change some lives
Kids with tears in their eyes they now come up to me
Showing love to me and telling me that they look up to me
The effects to me well it’s really kinda strange see I only want to share with you Jesus’s love for me
There’s a whole nother’ side of things now I’ve come to see
It’s a huge influence you’ve got upon this industry
But enough of me because it’s not what I came to say to you
Not a day goes by while I take time to pray for you
I’m sorry now for what your mom and dad they did to you
But I can relate with you because you see dude I’ve been there too
I know there’s a lot of pain and hurt now that you’ve been through
But never forget there’s a real love God gave to you
Chorus
La la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la
To whom it may concern
La la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la
Still to whom it may concern
La la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la
To whom it may concern
La la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la
It’s still to whom it may concern
Dear Slim I wrote you but you still aint calling
Backstage at the VMA’s someone gave you my song and
I’m kinda wondering what you thought man
When that guy walked up to you and talked to you and put it in your hands
Maybe you never listened to it or maybe you lost it or maybe you heard it and
You just got mad and then you tossed it
Did he get you back that’s the question that I’ll always get
And I’m like for God forbid that you might even have liked it
I don’t know congratulations on your movie yo
And I heard your last record well over ten million sold
But there’s one thing that’s really got me thinking bro
Does a Grammy mean anything and if its just gotta cost your soul
In case you didn’t know there’s a love that will never go away
You said your going to hell but it don’t have to be that way
See the bottom line of what I’m trying to say is
God puts back together the broken pieces that’s been thrown away
And even everyone ya know ya stuff that goes away
He’ll still love ya til the very day that your old and gray
Too bad a lot of Christians all they do is hate on you instead of droppin to their knees
And takin’ time to pray for you
And it’s obvious that you really love your daughter dude and for that I gotta tell you well
I really got respect for you
So here it is, Dear Slim Chapter Part Two
Another cat just trying to make it just like you
Chorus
Dear Slim did you hear the junk that I’m going through
Kids sending me hate mail and telling me how I’m biting you
Telling me how there gonna beat me up and just kill me too
But a lot of people they just seem to get my song confused
See what I say to you I know I might even sound funny but I never came at
You just to paint you as the enemy
It wasn’t about hatin’ you or startin’ some controversy
It wasn’t about blamin’ you or trying to make some money (no)
I don’t claim to know everything that you’ve experienced
Man I don’t know if you even be hearin’ this
But I said it once and I still hold to this
Is that a life without Christ is still a life that is never fixed
I tell you this even if it is a hard pill to swallow
Like it or not Slim you will always be a role model
Do you know these kids, we’re the one’s they always follow
What we say and how we live gives them a better tomorrow
I had my share of sorrow plus man I’ve been rejected
I’ve been chewed up, spit out and cussed, disrespected
But if I die today and I never sell another record
Jesus gave me more than I ever coulda been expected
I know life is hectic it could leave ya blown away
But check it bro because we all just gon’ die some day
And on that note well there’s only just one thing to say
There’s still one love and one God and only one way!

  1. I’m amanda and i was a HUGE fan of eminems and i started listening to kj-52. You were right when you said that his songs help people out. They helped me out os much. i went through almost the exact same thing! But kj-52 songs also help me out in a different way. you see listening and relating to eminems songs were when i was mad and hated the world and everything. but when i listened to kj’s songs i was mad but it changed my mood and remembered god is always there. and because kj rapped about eminem needing to change or whatever doesnt nessecerily mean hes calling him a bad person. There are somethings eminem probaly could change and it shouldnt change exatly who is his. so he grew up in the ghetto and had it hard. me to. im not screaming and swearin about it. also just because eminem prays doesnt mean he believes in god. yes i’ll admit its good to pray. but whats not good is praying and saying u belive in jesus christ or what not then goin out and saying G*D d****t that is using his name in vain which he does alot that i dont agree with. but you had good points and i respect you for coming out and saying them. i know what i wrote prolly got off track a lil srry.
but last thing if eminem did become christian rapper he would be greatly skilled and change ALOT of ppls life.
kj-52 is a great rapper and changed alot of lifes. i respect both of you.

  2. I use to listen to Eminem…Before I gave my life to Christ…I’am Blessed BY kJ-52’s music..I was Lost looking for Hope..I use to think some Eminem songs were encouraging..some were actually depressing…But in the end i was still Lost..the First time I heard Dear Slim by KJ..It was like hearing Life coming out of the speakers..I could feel the Love that KJ had for eminem and the Concern…I wanted to feel this Love I wanted to know GOD on that Level…GOD heard my cry and I eventually ended up in his Loving arms…GOD does Love Eminem just as much as he loves me and everybody else in this World..GOD gave him the Gifts he had..But GOD’s purpose wasn’t for him to use it in that way..the Devil is real he’ll take GOD’s gifts and use them for his satisfaction..the greatest trick The Devil ever pulled was to convince The world that he doesn’t exist..Just look around The Hate, The Murders, The Rape, The Pain the Tears..It isn’t just here because of people yes not everything is to Be blamed on The Devil sometimes you have to change within yourself…But The Bible calls him The Prince of The power of the air..and as you can see his influence is all over the World..from Music to War to everything else…But JESUS CHRIST is coming back for his Church that will be spotless and without wrinkles..and when he does The world as it exist will be no more..There Will be Peace that surpasses all Human Understanding, joy,and Love….Hell is real..And you don’t get to heaven by just being a good person..You have to believe in and give your Life completely to Jesus Christ just as he gave His life for us on that Cross..That’s truth straight from The bible…There is no way around it..Whoever wrote the First message…I would Like to tell you that I don’t say this to try to frighten you…or scare anyone into conversion..But GOD is HOLY and he can’t allow anything unholy in his sight…He Loves you the same that never changes…but GOD is Holy as well as Loving..Because you saw what was wrong with the church doesn’t mean you should have left it…U should have stayed and allowed GOD to use you to make a diffrence…GOD says you shall be known by your fruits..You can’t say your saved and going to Heaven…yet out of your mouth comes Hate and cursing and unforgiveness…GOD is Loving, Merciful, and Forgiving…Nobodys perfect..But GOD sees those who really try to Love him and Follow him..He sees the Heart…GOD Bless you..and I pray you find yourself back in the Arms of your Loving Father..he misses you..

  3. I use to listen to Eminem…Before I gave my life to Christ…I am Blessed BY kJ-52’s music..I use 2 be lost looking for Hope in Drugs, Sex, Alcohol and other empty things..I use to think some Eminem songs were encouraging..Most were actually depressing…But in the end i was still Lost..the First time I heard Dear Slim by KJ..It was like hearing Life coming out of the speakers..I could feel the Love that KJ had for eminem and the Concern…I wanted to feel this Love I wanted to know GOD on that Level…GOD heard my cry and I eventually ended up in his Loving arms…GOD does Love Eminem just as much as he loves me and everybody else in this World..GOD gave him the Gifts he has..But GOD’s purpose wasn’t for him to use them in the way that he does..the Devil is real…and he’ll take GOD’s gifts and use them for his satisfaction..the greatest trick The Devil ever pulled was to convince The world that he doesn’t exist..Just look around The Hate, The Murders, The Rape, The Pain the Tears..It isn’t just here because of people yes not everything is to Be blamed on The Devil sometimes you have to change within yourself…But The Bible calls him The Prince of The power of the air..and as you can see his influence is all over the World..from Music to War to everything else…But JESUS CHRIST is coming back for his Church that will be spotless and without wrinkles..and when he does The world as it exist will be no more..There Will be Peace that surpasses all Human Understanding, joy,and Love….Hell is real..And you don’t get to heaven by just being a good person..You have to believe in and give your Life completely to Jesus Christ just as he gave His life for us on that Cross..That’s truth straight from The bible…There is no way around it..Whoever wrote the First message…I would Like to tell you that I don’t say this to try to frighten you…or scare anyone into conversion..But GOD is HOLY and he can’t allow anything unholy in his sight…He Loves you the same that never changes…but GOD is Holy as well as Loving..Because you saw what was wrong with the church doesn’t mean you should have left it…U should have stayed and allowed GOD to use you to make a diffrence…GOD says you shall be known by your fruits..You can’t say your saved and going to Heaven…yet out of your mouth comes Hate and cursing and unforgiveness…GOD is Loving, Merciful, and Forgiving…Nobodys perfect..But GOD sees those who really try to Love him and Follow him..He sees the Heart…GOD Bless you..and I pray you find yourself back in the Arms of your Loving Father..he misses you..

  4. kj52 was dope before he sold his soul to his record label. Now he’s aight still. just not the original SOI member that murdered beats.

  5. I cant see how you can claim someone who wrote the song KIM can possibly be considered a positive roll model…

  6. You may be right he is an entertainer but it is a proven fact tjat music i s a way too your soul.

  7. you don’t known anything about the pentecostal religion! there are many branches from the pentecostal tree i am from the Assemblies of God branch and we known well about our we have committed sins and we try to live as good as we can but we slip up sometimes but God forgives go to a local AG church and ask the pastor about the religion fully cause i don’t know about it you to stop cutting down the tree and only cut off the deserving branches

  8. I know ENOUGH about the pentacostal Church branch of my hometown to tell you that it is composed of a bunch of intolerant, obsessed and closed minded people who think they are the only ones to hold the truth in the name of Jesus…btw, they are antisemitic too, which is sth i don’t get…how can they be antisemitic? Wasn’t Jesus a Jewish rabbi???lol

  9. ok first im goin to start wit tha song… he wants eminem to see the light, Marshal is a very talented and respectable person whos music helped me through my parents arguing and all that. and to the guy who wrote the first message. im pentacostal and our church talks about how we should get ourselves good before we get others, you cant hate on all pentacostal churches just cuz yours fell short. and kj seems like he wants to help eminem. i wanted to be just like eminem but God called me about a week ago to do christian rap and im mirroring eminems lyrical genius but using it for God. i want eminem to be saved because he is a good person at heart caught in wordly fame and fortune. Thats all….
Krystian ‘Rabbit Spradlin 14 year old living for God

  10. I reckon it’s good for Kj to write this song, but in he’s song he said “a life without Chirst is a life that is never fixed” which isn’t all true, Because you can come to Christ, therefore he should not say “never”, he isn’t trying to call Eminem a bad person, he’s message to Eminem is saying that, he needs to change, Kj is only caring for Eminem, peace.

  11. Hello i did not meanto diss eminem what happened was that out of nowhere they decided to play the Dear Slim video (my label had sent it in to MTV2 and they were considering it for airplay), they played it up as some controversial song that was a β€œdiss” on Eminem. They only played one minute of the video and cut it off after the first verse (which is the least spiritual and most controversial verse if it’s not heard in context of the rest of the song). They then proceeded the diss me and say I was nothing more than some emcee trying to make a name off myself by taking a shot at Eminem. After a lengthy internet message board debate on mtv.com and a push to get the video played in entirety that was the end of it, they never let me explain myself or play the whole video.

  12. First of all just because you write christian music doesnt mean it has to be all nerdy and stuff, and KJ does have an idea of what Eminem whent through because KJ went through some of the same things. I will admit there are lots of fakers out there but me or KJ aren’t one of them. I’m sorry you couldn’t find God, who ever wrote this blog, but go check out these devos that KJ makes: http://www.remedylive.com/home.aspx#/shows/category/kj52tv/?framed=true

  13. I see that youved had a bad experience from church, and because of that you turn to eminem, who insted of helping your anger, fuels it. I used to listen to eminem too and he gave me a personality that didnt really care for people. He may make you feel backed up in whatever your going through, that doesnt mean hes helping you. And I absolutely agree with you that the fact some christians are hippocrites. but we all sin and fall short of God…. you didnt answer one question in here”are eminem and God on the same side”? please answer your opinion

    1. God is in everyone…everyone is a child of God…you, me, Eminem, whoever…peace be with you:)

  14. i think eminem has responded to kj song its called be careful what you wish for but not sure its in the second verse check it out and tell me what yall think

  15. i just have one thing to say. yes there are a lot of christians out there who are fakers and who think getting someone to convert is like a game to get the most points but a mistake on-lookers make is to bunch all of us together. There are so many christians out there who just care about people and want to reach out to them. They don’t expect people to jump up and down and convert on the spot, they just want to give them some hope in messed up world that there is someone who will always love them and always want to help them.

  16. It’s so hard to figure it out sometimes, I am a Christian and I love God and want to serve him, and I love telling people about my faith when they ask me, but its hard because I also like listening to Eminem AND KJ. And sometimes It’s hard to figure out what I should do because I love all kinds of music.

    1. I do think that you can love any kind of music, no matter what your religious faith is:)

  17. There is a power and vibe in art that influences and motivates people. It has the power to provoke or sooth to bless or to curse. People who are on the fence and trying to stay neutral fail to admit that they inherited sin. I do not know why I got a clear call iny life when u did, the fire and fear and trembling and light if God simply showed up when I really sought God out when I began to be commonly exposed by some deep nature believers who were loving compassionate transparent also about their sin. I think Eminem has a great power and vibe about his style and found that can effect me when I hear it and I do not buy his music or listen to him often nor am I acclimated in a scene , but yet I can have a surrendered day needing peace and hope in a dark day with bills to pay a tough job a lot of responsibility and I look for Gods lead through Christ and His power in weakness is made perfect. I often use the same paint store for supplies for my business and one time Eminem was playing and when usually we have good common folk professional conversation , as I establish relationships with people and vice versa we need to talk share each others victory joys but also struggles , so when Eminem was playing I hit harsh vibes edgy emotions I could feel the vibe. It was jittery and invasive to my spirit in trying to focus on love which is un natural. The images were erotic and yet also material and tempting with violence. I’m not blaming Eminem or anyone , not even the devil , the Lord Christ my King the real King has revealed what sin really is and He wants to shelter me and I have no one to blame if I fall for the temptations but me, I work hard and allow mercy to be my strength nor to be a hypocrite. I think Kj and many followers of Christ reckognize not to rip on Eminem but the industry which can manipulate truth when older psychologists from MtV get hired to tap into kids minds with timeless rebellion sell it sell it all the way never revealing the consequences of the actions and they ate adult professionals who know even beyond religion what will happen to many if these kids. I think that is a main message Kj is also suggesting, what are you selling? I think Kj honors his gifts and his art and his powerful skills and spirit but where is he guiding people to, especially the young? It is a fallen world and we know that and so much will never change but there is poison out there that destroys lives and Kj is saying was fame making your life better? Now you are not poor ? Now you got your say? How is that vibe and power really making an impact on the generation you leave your mark with? Many forget our Father made us all to go wild and sing loud and jam out hard and have sex and maybe some money but there is a way that is right and is good . Music is for worshipping the one who made us and the relationships from Christ body are real authentic genuine loving fellowship that fills needs temporal fame and success cannot. Every knee will bow , we are not judging we are a voice calling to say you got limited time to walk through the door of salvation the reckognize we are sinners and need Him and when we receive the Holy Spirit we are exposed and begin to be used and really know where our sin is in contrast to the good. We really can be transformed a new creation that will blossom up into eternity. Kj is not concerned what pop culture thinks yet it claims it is so tolerant and more loving than religions or Christians, when in essence it oppresses the truth dramatically and uses people and tricky devil manipulates more minds and provokes the list stars to feel higher and yet success is not the pinnacle. God loves the least and uses dumb things and handicaps to confound the wise.

  18. You are right in saying kj sins just like slim, but we all make mistakes and fall short of the glory of God, but Christ payed our debt so if we come to a saving relationship with him we can be saved, you see God takes broken peices and makes them knew!

  19. Who ever made this blog i respect that i wana tell your right about some christian judging others with out checking themselves first and they have no right to judge..your right about all this.I read a line about your life.u said no church no christian helped you from your life but Marshall did are you reali sure about that i tell with respect dat no chruch cn help you o religion but know 1 thing Jesus is the one you should have been looking for he can heal you and saved you dont take me in the wrong way..and wat KJ did was a great job and thats a true christian to pray for someone who has been lost and needs help and eminem i also pray for you i’m not much into hip-hop but m a fan of you n KJ..i pray for both of you that 1 day you find the answer…

  20. Im from Chile (Southamerica) and I was very shoked to hear about this debate in the US years ago.
I like Eminem, he is very talented, but isabelle, you will have to agree that eminem is no role model and it doesn’t matter if he has claimed to be it or not… he’s just not a good example for all the kids that hear it… We are not saying KJ is perfect, but his lyrics are much helpfull that Eminems in general… You should hear both songs from KJ again, Dear slim and Dear slim part 2.. I think you haven’t get him right. He is not judging Eminem, in fact, I was gladly surprised about the lyrics, because he could have said many things to him and they would have been all true, but he decided to exhort with love (like the bible sais). We are not saying he’s a bad person, he just need more God in his life like everybody else!! and KJ really chose the correct words, exhorting, but with love.. that’s why I became a fan of KJ because he’s not that typical christian that thinks he’s better than the others.. you should hear more songs about him before YOU judge HIM.
And also.. you guys shouldn’t judge all christians because some of them “failed” you or some where “hypocritical”.. Like “Matt” said, you should have looked for Jesus, not a person. We all fail.. If you really want to find Jesus, he’s just next to you and he will guide you to real christians πŸ˜‰ If you do that, I asure you, you will change your mind…
Jonah! Keep going! I really love your lyrics and your humility, don’t ever change please! I’m from Chile, but I’ve managed to buy many of your CD’s πŸ˜›
    God bless you!

  21. Only the Lord Jesus can help a person. You can’t search for it in people or certain churches. Seek the Lord for healing in heart and mind and soul. God can lead you to the right congregation of true Christians. True Christians don’t judge people and don’t push their beliefs on other people. True Christians make up the Body of Christ, which is the REAL CHURCH. Not a building. I am a Gospel Rap Artist. I do love KJ-52’s tunes.

  22. Also I should’ve put this in before talking about the Body of Christ. True Christians show much love for everyone and pray with those who need prayer. They show the Fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, temperance, meekness, gentleness, goodness, and faith.
